With the March international break just around the corner, Major League Soccer doesn’t stop. After four rounds of matches, at least for some teams, Luis Suárez has emerged as the top scorer of the championship with four goals to his name. The ‘Pistolero’ shares the lead in the scoring charts with Giorgos Giakoumakis (Atlanta United) and Dejan Joveljic (LA Galaxy) in the race for the MLS Golden Boot, leaving everyone wondering where Messi is. But it’s still very early.

Last season, Denis Bounga claimed the top individual title for forwards with 20 goals. In five appearances with Inter Miami this season, Suárez has found the net in four matches, scoring once every hour and a bit. In the last match against DC United, the Uruguayan was carried off the field on shoulders after scoring a brace in half an hour and unlocking a game that seemed destined for a draw.

However, the race to be the top scorer has started fiercely this season, and despite it being very early in the season, we thought we’d take a look.

Who are Suárez’s rivals in the MLS?

The aforementioned Giakoumakis has started the season much like he ended the last one, scoring prolifically. The Greek was named MLS Newcomer of the Year after scoring 17 goals and providing three assists, narrowly missing out on a trophy he will vie for this year.
